Rules-Based Management System
ELM is a Rules-Based Management System. Rules tie together Event Filters and Notification Methods . Using Event Filters and Rules, you decide which events and conditions trigger notification rules or corrective action (Notification Methods).
The ELM Server component has a sophisticated Event Filter engine that creates and customizes Event Views and selectively triggers notification. Event Filters can be applied to Rules, which associate user-defined Notification Methods with Event Filters. This provides the ability for an administrator to be contacted when important events occur. Using Event Filters, you can define which events are important without having to define each individual event. Event Filters can be created using wildcards and Boolean logic for any information in the event.
ELM is pre-populated with rules. These rules enable you to manage your Windows workstations and servers out-of-the-box, without the need for any add-ons, scripts or other software.
