Microsoft Internet Information Server

The IIS Monitor monitors Internet Information Server 4.0 (Windows NT), Internet Information Services 5.0 (Windows 2000), 5.1 (Windows XP) and 6.0 (Windows 2003). The IIS Monitor periodically checks the state of IIS for state changes and broken paths. It internally executes a File Monitor (no separate File Monitor configuration necessary) to parse the IIS log files for failed requests and connection attempts from blocked addresses (e.g., addresses blocked via IIS security).

Link Checking

A broken path is when IIS and the file system are out-of-sync. When this happens, and depending on where the broken path exists, Internet Services Manager may display a red "stop sign" icon next to the virtual directory with the broken path.

Status Checking

Failed requests are any HTTP response codes that represent a failure. This includes all HTTP 500 and 400 level response codes, as well as all HTTP 300 responses except for HTTP 304. Any HTTP 200 response is considered a success.

Log File Monitoring

The IIS log files are monitored for error conditions and malicious attacks. Failed requests are any HTTP response codes that represent a failure. This includes all HTTP 500 and 400 level response codes, as well as all HTTP 300 responses except for HTTP 304. Any HTTP 200 response is considered a success.
