Monitor the World - Yours, Anyway.

The scalability of ELM is almost unlimited. You may be managing multiple systems spread across a few buildings, a few states or a few countries, but you can see the events from all of those systems at one console. Here's how:

The Forward Event Notification Method is used to forward an event from one ELM Server to another.

  1. Right-click on the Notification container in the ELM Console and select New | Notification Method. The Create Notification Method Wizard will appear. Click Next to continue.
  2. Select Forward Event from the Notification Method dropdown and click Next to continue. The ELM Server Computer Name dialog box will appear.
    • In the TCP Port field, enter the port on which the upstream server is listening. By default, ELM Servers listen on TCP port 1251.
    • Click the Add button to add an upstream server. The Select Computer dialog box will appear. You may manually enter the server name in the Computer Name field or browse the network and select the server. Click OK to add the server. Repeat this step for each upstream server you wish to add.
    • Click the Test button for each ELM Server added to verify connectivity.
    • Click Next to continue.
  3. The Notification Rule dialog box will appear. Put a checkmark next to each Rule for which this Notification Method should be triggered. Click Next to continue.
  4. The Threshold dialog box will appear. You can specify one of two thresholds:
    • "Disable this notification method when it is triggered" - If the Notification Method is triggered the configured number of times within the specified time period, the notifications will stop. The Notification Method is re-enabled after the time period specified.
    • "Activate this notification method after it is triggered" (default) - When this threshold is selected, the notifications will not be processed unless the rule is triggered the specified number of times within the time period selected.
    • If you don't want to be notified for cached data, check the "Disable this notification method for all Cached (old) data." box.
    • Click Next to continue.
  5. The Schedule dialog box will appear. Use your mouse to configure the hours and days you want this Notification Method active (default: all days, all hours). Click Next to continue.
  6. The Name and Describe Notification Method dialog will appear. Enter a unique name and (optional) description for this Notification Method; check the "Enabled" box (checked by default).
  7. Click Finish to save this Notification Method.

Note: You cannot edit an ELM server after it is added to this Notification Method. If you wish to edit an entry, you must first remove the entry (using the Remove button) and then re-add the correct entry.

Now you can see Events from the Wichita office!

Texas Hold-em Tournament a Favorite at TechMentor

TNT Software’s Texas Hold’em Tournament was at the top of attendees’ “must do” list at TechMentor in Orlando, FL from March 20 - 24. “People were waiting to register for the tournament at the booth area as we set up,” said Brent Skadsen, General Manager of TNT Software.

The six-table Shoot-Out was held on Tuesday night. Winners advanced to the Final Table on Wednesday afternoon. “We had a great turnout…everyone had a good time,” added Skadsen.

John Lukavsky of Thomas M. Cooley Law School finally walked away with top honors and a 500 count poker set with case. The second place winner, David Bowman of Tri-Star Engineering, Inc took home a 300 count poker set with case, and third place winner, Bill Ferguson of Parallel Connexions, won Copag Plastic Playing Cards.

TNT Software thanks John, David, Bill and all who participated. We look forward to seeing you next year.

TNT Software Users' Group

TNT Software is planning a Users' Group event for this Fall and you can help. Spend two days meeting with TNT Software staff, hearing presentations, meeting other users in Portland, Oregon or Seattle, Washington. Which do you prefer? You can vote by replying to this newsletter with either "Portland" or "Seattle" in the Subject line.

Results of your voting will be announced next month.

NOT Strictly Business

  • In the 1400's a law was set forth that a man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb. Hence, we have "the rule of thumb".
  • Many years ago in Scotland, a new game was invented. It was ruled "Gentlemen Only...Ladies Forbidden"...and thus the word GOLF entered into the English language.
  • Men can read smaller print than women can; women can hear better than men can.
  • It is impossible to lick your elbow.
  • Intelligent people have more zinc and copper in their hair.
  • The first novel ever written on a typewriter: Tom Sawyer.

  • Q. If you were to spell out number names (one, two, three...), how far would you have to go until you would find the letter "A"?
    A. One thousand
  • Q. What do bulletproof vests, fire escapes, windshield wipers, and laser printers all have in common?
    A. All invented by women.
  • Q. What is the only food that doesn't spoil?
    A. Honey
  • It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride's father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month, which we know today as the honeymoon.
