The "ELM 411" - Creation of an ELM Editor Custom Report from an Event View

Quite often we take calls from users who have developed event views they would now like to turn into reports.  ELM Version 5.0 makes creation of a custom report from an event view very quick and easy. The following steps will guide you through the process:

  1. In the ELM Console expand the Results container.
  2. Navigate to Event Views.
  3. Choose an Event View and using Include and Exclude Filters as well as custom date and time ranges you can create a view of the custom data you would ultimately like as a custom report.
  4. Select the Event View and drag-and-drop the view from the Event Views container down to the Reports container, specifically the ELM Editor Reports container.   The Event View will retain the name as it appeared in the Event Views container – to customize the name simply right click and choose Rename.

That is it! You now have a custom report!

Two Options for further ELM Editor report customization:

  1. When reporting on Security Events the event descriptions are typically quite lengthy and changing the properties of the report from a Row Grid to a Summary Grid is a Best Practice recommendation.
  2. All ELM Editor Reports can be scheduled to be output four different ways: Once, Daily, Weekly or Monthly.  All reports have flexible output options that include Email, File and Database.  To create a schedule and output for your new report simply right click on the report and choose “schedule” and the wizard will guide you through all of the flexible output steps.

Get a Sneak Peek the ELM Command Center Prototype!

On Tuesday, November 13 we will be conducting a special webinar demonstration of the ELM Command Center Prototype.  This presentation will give our valued customers and colleagues a sneak peek at the new user interface as well as other enhancements in development.  Following the demonstration we will conduct a Q&A session where attendees will have an opportunity to provide input and feedback directly to our product management and development teams on the future direction of our products.  Plus we’ll have a free gift for the first 50 people who sign up and attend.  Keep an eye on your Inbox for the invitation this week!

Officially released on April 15, 2004, ELM Enterprise Manager 3.1, ELM Log Manager 3.1 and ELM 3.1 Performance Manager 3.1 have supported hundreds of clients who manage thousands of systems worldwide. Product enhancements and upgrades have provided these users great value and most have already migrated to either ELM 4.0 or ELM 5.0. As a result, we are announcing the termination of commercial and technical support of all three ELM 3.1 products effective July 1, 2008 in accordance with our product lifecycle policy. The upgrade license is available free of charge for all users with current Premier Support.

All In Good Fun
When the office printer's output pages began to fade even with a new toner cartridge installed, the office manager decided to call the local repair shop where a friendly man informed him that the printer probably needed to be cleaned. Because the repair shop would charge a minimum $125 service call for the cleaning, he suggested that the manager try reading the printer's manual and do the job himself.

Pleasantly surprised by his candor, the office manager asked, "Does your boss know that you discourage business?"

"Actually it's my boss's idea," the employee replied. "We usually make more money on repairs if we let people try to fix things themselves first."
