TNT Software Ends the Year with Record Sales

We are proud to announce that TNT Software ended the year on a very positive note, posting the highest record sales in a single month in the history of the company. Our installed client base grew by almost 4,500 new systems monitored by ELM in December alone!

"December was quite a month. We were awarded a few sizable orders which really helped to boost our numbers and allow us to finish the year strong," commented Brent Skadsen, Vice President of Sales. "The value of the scalability and performance refinements our developers incorporated into ELM 5.5 has really shown with the end of the year boost in sales."

We'd like to thank all of our clients for their business and wish you a very prosperous New Year.

The "ELM 411" - Using Print Preview for Quick Reports

Often times you may find that you want to quickly share a view from the ELM console with another member of your team or management group. Rather than go through the steps to generate a "one off" report and print or send it to them there is a faster and easier way. This month's ELM 411 will cover using Print Preview for sharing simple reports on-the-fly.

Within any Event View or Alerts container, ELM has a right-click menu option. The first choice on this menu is "Print Preview" which is often overlooked in favor of performing some other task. By choosing Print Preview, ELM will launch the default browser, typically Internet Explorer, and display the contents of the view in the browser window. From the browser window you now have some options on how to share this report.

In the example below, we'll go through these steps from the Alerts container. First we'll right click within the Alerts screen to get the context menu and then choose Print Preview.

Next, Internet Explorer will launch and present the Alerts screen as an.html page with a table showing the data.

From here we have a few options. If the ELM Server has a printer installed the report could be printed and delivered via hard copy. (Beware of printing a lengthy, numerous page report!)

Or if the ELM Server has Internet Explorer version 7*, the page can be copied and pasted into an email (Rich Text or.html formats only), modified as needed (font sizes, colors, etc.) and delivered to the appropriate parties.

*Note: Internet Explorer 6 was found to disregard the table format when copying and pasting into an email, resulting in a jumbled mess of data rather than a clean report.

Once you are done with delivery of your "on-the-fly" report you can simply close the Internet Explorer window and go on with your work. You'll find using this simple Print Preview feature can save you a lot of time and make sharing basic information out of ELM quick and easy.

We hope that you found this Print Preview trick useful and informative and wish you continued success with your ELM deployment!

NOTE: All ELM 411 articles are written based on Version 5.5 and instructions may not be accurate for previous ELM Versions. If you would like assistance upgrading to Version 5.5 so you can use these tips - please contact support@tntsoftware.com.

Satyam Computer Services - Just How Much is a Billion Dollars?

By now you've certainly heard about India based Satyam Computer Services and their chairman Ramalinga Raju who falsified accounts and assets to the tune of over $1 billion (50+ billion rupees) in fictitious assets on the company's balance sheets over the last few years. Yes; a billion dollars. So let's break that down. If it were to be spent or assets sold to pay it all back, what would that compare to?

A billion dollars is the rough equivalent of:

  • 1,000 mansions worth $1,000,000 each, or;

  • 50,000,000 shares of Microsoft stock (~$20/share), or;

  • Assuming you make $75k a year and we don't adjust for inflation or raises, that is 13,333 years of your salary, or;

  • The winnings from EVERY Powerball jackpot in the year 2007 (after taxes), or;

  • Giving a thousand people $1,000 a day for 3 years straight, or;

  • About 18 shiny new F-16 fighter jets, or;

  • Sending 4,800 people to Harvard for a full ride, four year education.

Wow! Now the next time you hear someone talking about a billion dollars wasted or "missing" you have an even greater frame of reference for what kind of impact that really has.
