ELM System Requirements
ELM ServerThe ELM Server component has the following minimum requirements. |
|
| Operating System |
Windows Vista - Business, Enterprise and Ultimate Editions (32-bit and 64-bit) |
| Software | Internet Explorer 6.0 or later Conditionally Required Software Internet Information Services 5.0 or later
|
| Database |
A database is required for ELM Server installation. It can be on the ELM Server
or available via the local network. Refer to the Database readme file for
detailed information. |
| Hardware |
Intel Pentium III-500Mhz or higher |
| Security |
The ELM Server service account requires Administrative rights on the ELM Server and on all systems monitored by a Virtual Agent. User Account Control (UAC) must be disabled during installation on Windows Vista. |
| Notes |
When using the ELM Server on Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP Professional, the number of Agents you can monitor is limited. These operating systems have a hard-coded limit of 10 inbound TCP/IP socket connections. Therefore, no more than 10 Service Agents can be monitored when your ELM Server is running on one of these three platforms, or no more than 10 IP Virtual Agents that send TCP-based Syslog messages. This number is further reduced if you are running any other TCP/IP-based socket applications that require inbound socket connections to your ELM Server computer. In this event, you must use a Windows server family product. Note that this restriction does not apply to Virtual Agents, unless they are used to receive TCP-based Syslog messages. On Windows 2003, ASP.NET can be installed via Add or Remove Programs → Add/Remove Windows Components → Application Server → Details. The .NET Framework 2.0 can be downloaded via Microsoft Download Center (Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0). The server-side of the Web Viewer component runs only on Internet Information Services 5.0 (Windows 2000), Internet Information Services 5.1 (Windows XP) and Internet Information Services 6.0 (Windows Server 2003). When using the Web Page Monitor, the Link Checker Monitor or the Web Post Notification Method, you must have Internet Explorer 5.01 or later on the system that is executing the Monitor Item (e.g., the ELM Server or a Service Agent), or in the case of the Web Post Notification Method, on your ELM Server. ELM Server 5.0 has not been tested as a clustered application in Microsoft Cluster Server. |
ELM Console and ELM AdvisorThe ELM Console component has the following minimum requirements. |
|
| Operating System |
Windows Vista - Business, Enterprise and Ultimate Editions (32-bit and 64-bit) |
| Software |
Microsoft Management Console 1.2 or later |
| Hardware |
Intel Pentium III-500Mhz or higher |
| Security |
DCOM Permissions User Account Control (UAC) must be disabled during installation on Windows Vista. |
| Notes |
The ELM Console and ELM Advisor are both installed when the ELM Console
component is selected during setup. There is not a separate component selection
required during setup to install the ELM Advisor. |
ELM Service AgentThe ELM Service Agent component has the following minimum requirements. |
|
| Operating System |
Windows Vista - Business, Enterprise and Ultimate Editions (32-bit and 64-bit) |
| Software |
Internet Explorer 5.01 or later (for use with IIS Monitor, Web Page Monitor and Link Checker Monitor) |
| Security |
If running a Service Agent under a domain or local account, the account must have Administrative rights on the monitored system. User Account Control (UAC) must be disabled during installation on Windows Vista. |
| Notes |
The Remote Registry service must be running in order to use Service Monitors, Process Monitors, Agent Monitors, Server Monitors, Performance Alarms, or Performance Collectors. |
Virtual AgentThe ELM Virtual Agent component has the following minimum requirements. |
|
| Operating System |
ELM Virtual Agents run in the ELM Server process, see ELM Server requirements
above, and can monitor the following operating systems: |
| Hardware |
-Runs in the ELM Server process, see ELM Server requirements above. - |
| Software |
-Runs in the ELM Server process, see ELM Server requirements above. - |
| Security |
-Runs in the ELM Server process, see ELM Server requirements above. - |
| Notes |
Virtual Agents run in the ELM Server process and use RPC to gather data from
Windows systems. They are not visible as separate processes. |
IP Virtual AgentAn IP Virtual Agent can be assigned to any system or device on your network that has an IP address. |
|
| Required Software |
-Runs in the ELM Server process, see ELM Server requirements above. - |
| Security |
-Runs in the ELM Server process, see ELM Server requirements above. - |
| Notes |
IP Virtual Agents run in the ELM Server process, and do not appear as separate processes. |
Web Viewer ClientThe ELM Web Viewer Client interface is installed during ELM Server installation. |
|
| Software |
Internet Information Service 5.0 or later on the ELM Server computer. |
| Security |
Any security configuration changes made via the ELM Console also affect the ELM Web Viewer. |
| Notes |
Although the Web Viewer is primarily a read-only tool, be aware that users with sufficient permissions can enable or disable ELM objects (such as Agents or Monitor Items), and can delete data from the ELM database. |
