Ping Monitoring
The Ping Monitor sends period ICMP echo requests to the Agents being monitored by the Ping Monitor. This verifies basic TCP/IP connectivity. Because the Ping Monitor uses the Agent name when sending ICMP packets, it may be useful in detecting name resolution problems.
The Ping Monitor is flexible and enables administrators to control the size of the ICMP packets and the number of packets generated at each interval. This minimizes ICMP traffic on slow or saturated links.
