 ELM 6.5 - New Peek at Filter Customization       

A common request in previous versions of ELM has been to have the ability to use Agent Categories within Event Filters. We are excited to announce that this new level of customization has been implemented into ELM Enterprise Manager 6.5 which is coming soon!

Now all Event Filters include the ability to include one or many Agent Categories. ELM's powerful Event Filters are global in nature and can be used for Monitor Items, Event Views, Notification Methods as well as Reports.

In addition, any custom Agent Categories you have created will also be automatically added to the list of available selections from within the Event Filter settings!

Now you'll be able to customize your Monitor Items, Event Views, Notification Methods and Reports even further with this powerful new addition!

 July Curiosity Poll Results - Just Browsin'

Interestingly enough, IE and its multiple variations still in use continue to dominate the browser war for most popular, however it's usage has been declining over the last few years.

Looking at the last 6-months of visitors to www.tntsoftware.com our results are similar, with Firefox trading places with Chrome.

 August Curiosity Poll - What Version of Exchange?

Microsoft Exchange remains a dominant player in business messaging software platforms (think email, calendars, contacts, etc), and like their OS's there are still a number of versions in use, old and new. So once again, we're wondering: What version of Microsoft Exchange does your company use?

 The "ELM 411" - Identity Crisis

What's in a name? Something identifiable, unique, and often widespread. Ever talked to a friend or colleague whose company changed names for one reason or another about the challenges that go along with that change? Some of the necessary changes are obvious and easy (logos, letterhead, business cards, etc.) but how about when it comes to digital assets? These can be far more widespread and not as readily noticeable. Which can be a real pain during the transition process.

Recently a TNT Software customer contacted technical support for assistance with this very challenge. A name change, and therefore domain change, was putting them to the test. The tying up of loose ends had them looking for shortcuts to ease the transition as much as possible. In this particular scenario, the client had a very large environment, running multiple ELM servers each with a range of 2-4 dozen different email alerts on each one. Going in and changing the SMTP settings as well as the To: and From: settings across multiple servers and multiple Notification Methods was not a task their ELM administrator was looking forward to.

With the flexibility built into ELM this request actually has a very simple solution. Within the ELM Console, you can export your Notification Methods' configuration to modify outside of the application where a bulk find and replace can save you a lot of time.

The first step is to expand the ELM Console so that you can see the All Notification Methods container. Then right-click on it and choose Export to > File.

We'll pick a location that is easy to find and save the XML file locally.

Next, open the XML file in notepad and use the Find & Replace function to change the names accordingly.

After changes are complete and the file is saved, we'll go back to the All Notification Methods in the ELM Console, and this time we'll right-click and choose to Import > From File.

Find the 'All Notification Methods' XML file which we just modified and select it to Import.

Once the Import is complete ELM will notify you of a success.

And that's all there is to it. The import function will only import changes made to the XML file and change those settings in the Notification Methods. It's always a good idea to double check so we'll take a quick peak at one of the email notification properties to verify the changes have taken affect.

So changing company names and everything that goes along with that will definitely be a challenge with a lot of loose ends to tie up, but when it comes to ELM these kinds of changes can be a walk in the park.
